How Safe are Cell Phones?

Radio Frequency  from cell phones comes from the antenna, which sends signals to the nearest base station. More far the cell phone is from the nearest base station, the more radiation it requires to send the signal and make the connection. As a result, scientists theorize that the health risks from cell-phone radiation would be greater for people who live and work where base stations are farther away or fewer in number—and research is beginning to support that theory.
In December 2007, Israeli researchers reported in the American Journal of Epidemiology that long-term cell-phone users who live in rural areas face a "consistently elevated risk" of developing tumors in the parotid gland compared with users who live in urban or suburban locations. The parotid gland is a salivary gland located just below a person’s ear.
And in January 2008, the French Health Ministry issued a warning against excessive cell phone use, especially by children, despite the lack of conclusive scientific evidence linking cell-phone use with cancer or other serious health effects. In a public statement, the ministry said: "As the hypothesis of a risk cannot be entirely excluded, precaution is justified.
.  .
General recommendations to minimize the potential health risks include talking on cell phones only when necessary, and using a hands-free device to keep the cell phone away from your head.

How to make a computer faster: 6 ways to speed up your PC ?

By following a few simple guidelines, you can maintain your computer, help increase your PC speed, and help keep it running smoothly.

1. Remove spyware and viruses :Spyware collects personal information without letting you know and without asking for permission. From the websites you visit to user names and passwords, spyware can put you and your confidential information at risk. In addition to privacy concerns, spyware can hamper your computer's performance. For that you need to install a good antivirus and spyware .For more on this check my blog Free anti-virus.

2. Free up disk space : The Disk Cleanup tool helps you to free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer. If you want a free software to clean your disk use Ccleaner download now ccleaner download

3.  Disk fragmentation : Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk as file is opened (to piece it back together). The response time can be significantly longer.

To use Disk Defragmenter:

Windows 7 users

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter.

Disk Defragmenter dialog box, with the Configure schedule button selected
  2. In the Disk Defragmenter dialog box, click the drives that you want to defragment, and then click the Analyze disk button. After the disk is analyzed, a dialog box appears, letting you know whether you should defragment the analyzed drives.

Tip: You should analyze a volume before defragmenting it to get an estimate of how long the defragmentation process will take.
  3. To defragment the selected drive or drives, click the Defragment disk button. In the Current status area, under the Progress column, you can monitor the process as it happens. After the defragmentation is complete, Disk Defragmenter displays the results.
  4. To display detailed information about the defragmented disk or partition, click View Report.
  5. To close the View Report dialog box, click Close.
  6. You can also schedule the Disk Defragmenter to run automatically. (Your computer might even be set up this way by default.) Under Schedule, it reads Scheduled defragmentation is turned on and then displays the time of day and frequency of defragmentation. If you want to turn off automatic defragmentation or to change the time or frequency, click Configure schedule (or Turn on Schedule, if it is not currently configured to run automatically). Change the settings, and then click OK.
  7. To close the Disk Defragmenter utility, on the title bar of the window, click the Close button.

    4. Detect and repair disk errors
In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.
As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced.
If you use your computer daily, you should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.

    Run the Error Checking utility:

    1. Close all open files.
    2. Click Start, and then click Computer.
    3. In the Computer window (My Computer in Windows XP), right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
    4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
    5. Click the Check Now button.
    6. In the Check Disk dialog box (called Error-checking in Windows 7), select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.

Check Disk Local Disk dialog box, with the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box selected
    7. If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them

      5. Registry Cleaner  : There are lot of Registry cleaner you can buy  but if you want to use a free one you should try Ccleaner .you should clean your registry once a week as registry is a database in which Windows keeps track of relationships between hardware, software and the operating system. ccleaner download

      6. ReadyBoost:If you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use ReadyBoost to speed up your system. A new concept in adding memory to a system, it allows you to use non-volatile flash memory—like a USB flash drive or a memory card—to improve performance without having to add additional memory

What is the Difference between GPRS, Edge, 3G and HSDPA and 4G ?

Mobile networks are at last here and we use them every day as part of our normal business and personal lives.  However many people I talk to still get confused with the differences between them. The difference is :-
1G :- Refers to the first-generation of  wireless telephone technology mobile telecommunication .These are the analog  telecommunications standards that were introduced in the 1980s .Then came
2G :-  Second-generation wireless telephone technology mobile telecommunication . Second generation 2G cellular telecom networks were commercially launched on the GSM standard in Finland by Radiolinja in 1991. Three primary benefits of 2G networks over their predecessors were that phone conversations were digitally encrypted and 2G introduced data services for mobile, starting with SMS text messages.
Then came 2.5G (second and a half generation) gave birth to GPRS technology (General Packet Radio Service)
While  3G was on the way but we saw one more incremental step before this was rolled out. 2.75G (EDGE)  which provide Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution , EGPRS
Then finally came 3G 3rd generation mobile telecommunications, gave us more reliable faster data rates and better platform that allows synchronous voice and data usage.
Currently High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) is a combination of 2 mobile technology protocol   HSDPA (High Speed Down-link Packet Access) and HSUPA (High-Speed Uplink Packet Access) is the standard for most mobile phones. released on 2008.
and now comes 4G  Fourth Generation of mobile telecommunication which leaves the 3G to far behind.4G has the potential to be insanely fast. The various technologies should be able to deliver download speeds of 1Gbps when stationary (in the home), and 100 Mbps while mobile .Currently, advertised 4G is really just late-stage 3G. The country like USA and Japan have already been using this service. The formats designated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as “true 4G technologies” are:
  • LTE Advanced (Long Term Evolution Advanced)
  • WiMAX

How to use a facebook-skype Video chat ?

Finally after a long time of waiting FB have lunched a Facebook-Skype video chat, basically a “mini Skype client” running within Facebook, allowing you to make a video call through Facebook , this is a really good work done by the Facebook engineers ans Skype too , by the lunch of Facebook-Skype video call option i think the people will be spending more time in Facebook then using a simple messenger.
Let's get started with Facebook  Video Chat.
1. Log in to your Facebook profile
2. Open a new tab or window, go to http://www.facebook.com/videocalling

3. Click the GET STARTED BUTTON and Facebook chat applet will be downloaded and you need to click the downloaded file to begin the installation.
Before you can call your friends, you need to complete a quick, one-time setup:
  1. You will be asked to complete the setup the first time you try to call a friend, or the first time a friend tries to call you. To call a friend, click the video icon at the top of your chat window.
  2. Simply click the “Set Up” button and follow the instructions for how to set up video calling on your browser.
  3. Once you’ve successfully completed the setup, the call you’ve started with your friend should connect automatically. If it doesn’t, you can call again by clicking the video icon at the top of your chat window.

4. Once finished installing, click your chat button and go online. See your contacts for anyone online and click their name and start chatting.
5. At the chat window, you will notice the video cam icon at the top, click that button to initiate video call.
If your contact has already installed Facebook Video Chat installed, you can initiate video call straight away.
In case she has not, a notification to install the applet will be shown at her side and she needs to install the apps before you can use video chat.
The video is of decent resolution and the audio is also good, although the resolution depends on the quality of your webcam. Sometimes the video is not in sync with the audio, but this depends on the broadband connection speed (upload and download speed) you are getting and the speed of the provider of the one you are on chat with.
                                        That's all good luck ..
